When people ask us if our brick stains really last 20+ years, we can confidently say yes—when the brick and mortar are in the right condition. We’ve had customers send us pictures years later showing how great their home still looks. But unfortunately, not every wall is ready for a coating. And some companies will take your money and stain a wall that shouldn’t have been touched.
Here’s the truth: Not all brick is in good shape. And staining brick with crumbling mortar or moisture issues is a mistake. Before starting any masonry repair or staining project, run your hand across the brick—if the mortar is soft, dusty, or wipes away easily, it’s time to call a mason. Don’t just rely on a general home inspector, especially one with no masonry experience.
🔧 Masonry Repair Tip: Always make sure your wall is structurally sound and has at least another 20 years in it. A local mason can inspect it—and often give a free estimate. Don’t skip this step.
🧱 Staining Tip: Never skip the primer. Let it dry for 12 hours before applying your brick stain. If someone tells you primer will ruin the job, that’s a red flag. They’re likely rushing the job and don’t understand how potassium silicate works—it needs time to crystallize and bond with the masonry.
